Jockey’s Ridge State Park
This state park has been on my list since moving to NC and it did not disappoint! We visited early May and visited on a Saturday around noon. There were not that many people there. We hiked some of the trails that go around to the water and then up the main ridge of the dunes. The views are breathtaking and it feels like you are deep in a desert. Past the main ridge, we saw some people gliding, which looks really fun and we heard it is a popular activity here. If you do not like sand or being in the sun though, it probably is not your cup of tea. I would say it is an experience either way to see the tallest sand dunes in the east! Also, there is plenty of parking, the park is completely free, and there is a nice little visitor center with restrooms right by the parking.
