My husband and I had a wonderful time at Loophole! The cottage is charming and comfortably furnished. The location is fabulous – convenient to everything while still feeling incredibly private. And the views from the cottage are simply stunning! The overall vibe really spoke to us of all the happy times and good memories that have been made there. Great place to relax and “just be”.

It’s just a great spot – the property is full of character but is more than adequately appointed, in a wonderful location, and the place is just easy to live in. We started the vacation as soon as we got the bags inside – access was simple and instructions and label were clear. Really looking forward to the prospect of coming back.

If we could give our experience at Loophole more than 5 stars, we would! This beach house is not the typical plastic fantastic OBX rental. Instead, it’s a beautiful authentic Nags Head cottage that whispers from a bygone era of slower days, generous hospitality, abundant laughter and good times enjoyed with family and friends. Just walk the house and take in the charm, art and family photos and you’ll feel the “happy.” It’s the perfect place to put down the phones & electronics to create your own family memories. Sunrises, sandy toes and cool salty breezes come easy here. Sunsets can be enjoyed on the front deck too. That ocean view! It’s truly a magical spot! Our family enjoyed gathering on the decks and around the fireplace on the cooler evenings. We walked to Dune Street Grill for their “best on the beach” fish tacos. It truly was a treat! Perfect Nags Head location!
Our host was extremely responsive, very accommodating, flexible and friendly. We can’t wait to go back!

Amazingly cozy and well-appointed home
Amazingly cozy and well-appointed home. We really enjoyed the fireplace given our mid-November stay. The kitchen is so well appointed with everything you need, plus some (I particularly loved all the Vietri dishes as this is a favorite of mine and speaks to quality). The artwork and photographs are endless. The ocean view and beach location (in between 2 very large dunes) is second-to-none. Very close to restaurants and grocery. Pristinely clean. I would definitely return! Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with me and my mom. A 10-star stay.

The absolute perfect home for our girl’s getaway! Loophole had everything we needed and then some. House was cozy, and the decor was fabulous! Great location with the beach in your backyard. The Loophole has been on my bucket list for many years so I felt so fortunate that we were able to spend our 36th anniversary there. The Cottage was everything I had hoped for and more. From the beautiful ocean view and all the comforts of home made it so special. Not to mention what amazing host Roland and Natalie are.

We had an idyllic family vacation at the Loophole. The host was incredibly responsive, helpful and accommodating. The location is just insanely perfect— it was honestly incredible in every way and I’m devastated to be home! Steps from the beach, hose for rinsing off from beach, outdoor shower, lovely neighbors…very convenient for the local YMCA with an amazing outdoor pool, great farmers market, bowling mini golf etc…felt so at home there immediately…can’t say enough good things and I miss it already.

We really enjoyed our stay. The house on the beach was pretty spectacular. Loved the sunrises and how close to the water you are. A great place for a family or a few couples to enjoy.

We were a party of nine and never felt cramped or in need of anything. I would definitely recommend this home to anyone with a large party that wishes a great experience in the Outer Banks of NC. 10 out of 10!

This home certainly makes for a relaxing vacation, as you have direct walk-out access to the beach; it feels warm and welcoming, everything you need to unwind and simply enjoy the sea and sand. Ideal location. We would definitely stay again.
This was my third time staying at Loophole
This was my third time staying at Loophole. I love it. I was traveling alone and doing a work/vacation hybrid. The view from my "office" aka the dining room table facing the ocean was fantastic. Everything about this house is wonderful: oceanfront, welcoming, quiet, classy. The hosts are exceptional as well. Very friendly and responsive. It is on the expensive side, for me. I'll apologize to my bank account after I book my next stay.

Lovely place, it truly is right on the beach, as opposed to a lot of "beachfront" homes. You step off the back deck onto the dune! The house was spotless, with no pet hair, which is huge to us. Well maintained, everything was just like the listing said. We felt comfortable and at home and had a very enjoyable vacation here with our party of 9! The hosts allowed us an early check in and were very responsive and helpful. We hope to come back.

The beauty of sunrise, the close view of wildlife in the sea and sky, and the night gaze at the stars will frame our fond memories of this beautiful home. The view of the water was unreal
The view of the water was unreal! Such amazing views and a private beach walkout. We loved every minute of our stay! Great location, close to many shopping places, restaurants and grocery stores. The place was spacious for the 4 of us and we enjoyed the board games and extra beach furniture provided. We would love to stay again in the future!

The host and her staff keep the house immaculate--quite an effort as the house perches on beach dunes. Spotless and well equipped, and owned by locals, one can see from the appointments that this is a loved family destination for part of the year. By the looks of the multi-generational photos, one can also tell that many fond memories have been made here. We experienced the same.

The iconic seafront cabin was perfect for our mother-daughters get-a-way! It was clean, comfy, cozy, private, and exactly what we had hoped for. Sun rises, walking the beach, shell picking, and bird watching were our favorite daily activities. Loved the easy beach access!

It is a perfect location if you want to get to things to do in the central outer banks.
The host was great we were able to check in a couple of hours early which was a great way to start off our week.
I plan to rent this house again next year for our annual fishing trip.

Loved staying at “Loophole”! The house is so charming and a throwback to the original beach houses of Nags Head. Everything about it is perfect. The view of the ocean from the back porch is stunning! We didn’t want to leave and will definitely be booking again for our annual mother/ daughter’s trip!

The stay was absolutely great
The stay was absolutely great. From check in to check out we had all that we needed and Katie was very responsive. The view was absolutely breath taken and a very short walk to the beach. The house was super clean. You could definitely tell they cherish the home with the upkeep and their tenants as well. Highly recommended. We will certainly visit again and will be using Katie as our host! 🫶
Loophole was wonderful
Loophole was wonderful! Our private beach entrance was the closest that we've ever been to the surf--maybe 10 steps max from the house. The multiple decks with plenty of seating overlooked the ocean, and there were Adirondack chairs and tables right on the beach for our use. Nice added touches were fluffy beach towels, coffee, ice machine, washer and dryer. We also loved the beach artwork and felt right at home with the cozy furnishings and comfy bed. There were plenty of dishes, drinkware, coasters, and sand chairs. If you're looking for a sterile condo, this isn't it, but if you're after a historic home right on the beach, you've found your place. (Note that the hallways and one of the bathrooms might be a tight squeeze for some larger folks.) We'll be back!

Loophole is a great place to stay at Nags Head! The house met our expectations and was very welcoming and comfortable. There were a lot of little extras in the kitchen and the bathrooms. The mattresses were very comfortable.

Just a dream. Such a special house and in such a magical spot - better than we ever could have imagined. Right on the ocean, steps to the beach, endless beautiful views from the peaceful living room and kitchen. Loved the original art and the soft bath towels. Could not have enjoyed it more.

The house is a beautifully historic cottage. It’s obvious many years of memories have been made there. The beach is steps away and was much less packed than any beach we’ve ever visited. Having towels, linens, basic toiletries, and beach gear provided is a huge bonus!

We booked at the last minute. And were surprised to find a place directly on the beach! It was magical! Comfortable inside & out! Very relaxing, quiet, & peaceful. Just what we were looking for!

We really loved the place. The beach was right there and was almost like a private beach. Was close to very good restaurants. Katie was a very good host was always reachable whenever we needed her. Will definitely plan another visit soon...

Cleaning was okay-floor under dining table was pretty gross & had to be swept upon use; A few stained bath towels. A “clean”bed with sand in it- (bedding not changed?)
Some safety hazards: closet door in bunk room was off track & when I tried to open fell onto my head. Tried to use the hammock but hooks were rusty; as soon as it was sat on, one hook broke & my son fell.
Biggest issue was when I sent message of damaged door hitting me in the head & dirty floor, the only response was “the home is meticulously cared for & cleaned…I hope you have a nice time”. No, “are you okay?” Or “I’m so sorry the door is broken, we will get that fixed”. Just a defensive reply concerning the dirty floor. As if I made it all up (I have photos). Katie is NOT concerned with your safety and will ignore safety concerns brought to her attention, while being immediately defensive if you mention cleanliness.

We have stayed at a lot of airbnbs over the last several years. But Katie, your special touches were like none other. Thank you for giving us a wonderful stay. Peggy Ann, thank you for opening up your home again. We have so many memories there and this weekend was so special to be there again. Allen walked in and said…. This smell reminds me of my childhood. Perfect place!! Having the ocean right there cures the soul. We are already looking at a long weekend in the fall!!

Katie, the host, was exceptional. The house was everything I could possibly want. It was like staying in an art gallery built among the dunes, with gorgeous ocean views. I loved every minute I was there. The home is very clean, beautifully appointed, and located on my favorite stretch of beach in Nags Head. Wi-Fi is super fast (I was working remote while there). I cannot wait to go back.

The house is a gem
The house is a gem. It IS a true beach house that has been the setting for lots of sweet family memories. When we first walked in it felt very warm and welcoming PLUS you look out the windows and see the ocean. Walk out the backdoor and lots of outside ocean-view seating and literally steps to the beach (and a wrap around porch). The house was immaculate and everything we needed was there. Small details throughout the house were a plus....lots of hooks, beach towels, closets with hangers, easily accessible instructions, great lighting, tons of cute coffee mugs, I could go on ... We would stay again and plan to at another time since the weather wasn't so cooperative for us.

Nice home right on the beach. We felt at home and very comfortable. Lots of things to do and see. Walk down the deck steps and right on the beach. Ocean is very close. Nice. We had a flawless stay and Katie was very accommodating. 5 stars all the way!!
